Week 9: Reflection

A reflection paper or presentation is often used in colleges to identify how well students are able to apply course concepts. For this posting (which should be more in depth and longer than previous postings) tell us the following:
1) Explain what you learned and the insights you had from completing the blog assignments. Be specific.
2) Include what you learned from reading the comments posted by your classmates.
3) Identify which blog assignment you felt contributed the most to your professional communications skills.
This is your final blogging assignment and is worth 20 points.

1. The biggest thing l learned is how difficult it is to put your opinions down on paper so they make sense. It is easy to verbalize something, sound stupid, rephrase what you said, defend yourself and in the end finally get your point across. To write clearly and concisely in a manner that will be understood the first time is not a natural process and takes effort and practice.
2. Seeing the other comments is always interesting because I get a sense of all the different perspectives in the world. We all think that our own beliefs are the right ones and when you read or hear another idea that gets your attention, it makes you question yourself. It can also reinforce what you thought in the first place, which is just as fun.
3. Week 5 with the seven tips was the assignment I found most helpful. It directly applied to what I do at my office and what I see in email coming from other people. We have a lot of email communication and the styles vary widely. I would like to share this information with others because a lot of people must not take the time to proofread what they write.

1. Well, when I actually remembered to do the blog assignments I learned that it is some what difficult for me to express my opinions off the top of my head without making them inappropriate. Even though they may not always sound the greatest and all jumbled around like scattered cheerios on a table I could easily defend it when verbalizing it even though my verbalizations usually end up coming out rather inappropriate which I tried to stay clear from when typing them down.
2. I learned that many of my classmates have some of the same opinions as me which for me helps me find them more relatable.
3. The blog assignment I found to be most helpful was the one about the seven tips.

I personally enjoyed the blog assignments simply in the sense of getting to know the others in the classes in regards to their experiences and beliefs. As most of the classmates are only participating in evening classes in pursuit of a wide variety of degrees, it is unlikely that we will have a lot of classes in common. I would say I most enjoyed the blog in regards to using the appropriate channel to relay information. It is good to know that others feel the same about an inappropriate action or response in certain circumstances.

1. I have never blogged before. Just doing a blog was a learning experience. I think the most important thing I learned was how to get my message across without being disrespectful. I also learned how to get my message across effectively in a concise way.
2. I found it very interesting reading other posts. I think it is interesting how other people can interpret a question and what they are thinking. Everyone has such a different viewpoint. Reading other blogs really makes you think about your own posting. Sometimes I wish I would have came up with a better idea.
3. I found all of the blogs interesting. The one that was probably the most helpful was the week four blog about revising and proofreading. I think revising and proofreading is the most important because it can be the most damaging. Having a document composed error free will make you credible and people will take you seriously. Taking that extra time to proofread might even help your career.

1. Overall, I would have to say that I learned a lot from the blogs. I was not all that motivated to posting blogs because I did not want others to know what I was writing about. Since each blog was related to the chapters discussed in class, it improved my writing skills. It helps out a lot by taking what I learned in class and writing it down as a comment to see if I actually understand the concept or not.
2. What I learned from my classmates is that, everyone has their own opinion. Sometimes there is someone who has the same idea as you and or you agree with their comments. As I read my peers comments, I note down what they learned from the unit and how I can understand the same concept as them.
3. I felt that the negative and persuasive blogs helped me. I have not used them yet, but I know that when I graduate and find a profession in the health field, I will have to communicate with other business in persuading them to help the community and or giving bad news. I also felt that the proofreading blog helped out too because you have to be very careful when writing letters or papers or e-mails to your boss or other people. I tend to think I spelt everything and used the correct punctuation but I don’t. I just over look it sometimes and should have someone else look it over. Overall, all the blogs were helpful, excluding the introduction blog, because I now have a better understanding of how I will use each blogs in my professional career.

Through the blog assignments, I learned to use proper grammar and spelling in all types of written communications. I also learned that people will judge a person based on how they write. When reading the comments posted by my classmates, I learned to appreciate the other person’s point of view; even if I disagree. The comments posted gave me more than just my perspective on how we view things. I noticed that we all have valid points and often have the same ideals.
The blog assignment I felt contributed the most to my professional communications skills was on giving negative news. Learning to write and communicate in an indirect manner was a huge challenge for me because I am the type of person who prefers direct answers. This helped me to better understand and give negative news in different ways.

When I first started doing blogs, I had absolutely no idea as to what this involved. I had never done any blogs before so this was a totally new learning experience for me. Once I learned how this was done, it actually became a lot of fun to do every week. I do have to admit though that I did have some issues with the logging in for the first couple of weeks. I want to personally thank Ryan again for helping me out with this, because ever since then it has just been a breeze for me to do all by myself. I appreciate the time that he took away from his break time to help me with this.
I enjoyed reading what other people have written every week. I didn’t get a chance to read everyone’s comments every week, but the one’s that I did read I would take notice to how they were written. I would find myself noticing spelling errors in some of the comments as I would read them to myself. Most of the time before taking this class, I might not have taken that much interest into how something was written. I would probably just have read between the lines and figured out what they were saying. After taking this class though, I have noticed myself focusing a lot more on this with my own papers than I know that I done before. I also would like to think that this information will follow me long after I have completed my program.
I don’t have just one particular blog that I liked doing the most, because all of the questions that were asked had some ideas that I found were worth writing about. I hope that a lot of the other students felt the same way as I did when I wrote my ideas down into the blogs for other people on the internet to read and comment. I have to say that this has been a great learning experience in my own personal life that I hope to be able to continue with long after this class is over in just a few weeks from now.

The biggest challenge I have had to accomplish is to think of a topic and put it down on paper. Then after that I have to try to proof read something I have wrote. That is always a difficult task for me. From writing these blog assignments’ I have learned how to sit down and brainstorm about something and then just write freely. I have also learned a lot about my fellow classmates. I have learned what they like or dislike. I have also learned about their struggles with writing. I find it interesting to see how so many of my class mates have so many of the same problems I do. I feel that the blog about proofreading was probably the one I contributed most to. That was also the blog I found to be most interesting to read. For the most part I didn't mind doing these blogs. Sometimes I would just forget to do them by Friday. All and all they went pretty good.

The blog assignments gave insight into what other people thought about a certain topic. I learned that everyone has their own opinion about what was being discussed. I was able to give my own opinion about each blog that I was assigned to do. I wrote what I thought was important for each week. From reading other student's blogs, I learned that they all have their own viewpoints on the assignments, which I think is a good thing. They provided feedback that they thought was necessary for the assignment. I thought that the section on revising and proofreading was the most beneficial to me. I think that it is very important to revise what you wrote and be careful not to make and spelling errors. In today’s business world, when it comes to communicating, it is to one’s benefit to make a paper or document as professional as possible.

1. I learned what blogging is and how to set up a google account. I also learned that I need to write down my user name and password. When commenting on the second blog I couldn’t remember it and it took me an hour to figure it out! Procrastination is a bad idea too, because when turning on the computer at the last minute and your internet won’t work, it can be a task to find somewhere else to comment from on time.
2. When reading my classmates posts, I learned that everyone’s writing style is different. Also their comments helped me better understand different perspectives on the question being asked.
3. When I needed to comment about a future business letter to my employer I learned that even if it’s a good friend it needs to be professional. Previously I would have sent her a sloppy facebook message. It wouldn’t include the explanation necessary for her to understand my need. It also wouldn’t have the clarity needed or be as precise.
I did learn a lot from the blogging, but I learned the most from the homework and in class writing assignments.

I definately learned how to organize my thoughts for others to read them. I also enjoyed reading other peoples thoughts. In the past, I have written my online blogs for only myself. I am very glad that we were able to blog as a class.
I think the blog assignment that most contributed to my professional skills would be the one about giving negative news and the email one. I feel that these will be very useful in the future. I have used the email in the past and now I wish I could go back and take back some of my emails. I would proofread more, do more revising and do lots more planning.

To be perfectly honest I hated all of the blog assignments! I only did them because I had to. I do not feel I learned anything from doing them. I did not read any of the other student entries because I just wanted to get it over with on witch ever day I remembered to do the blog. I do not feel it has contributed to my professional skills at all.
The only thing I can think that I learned from the blogging is that if you do what you have to you, and do it well, you will to well in life. But I already knew that from life in general. I thought it was a bunch of busy work and did not help me at all. It just was one more thing to have to remember in an already overly busy life.
I did not read what was written by the others. I only did what I had to so I would get my points. I did not feel reading what the other wrote was part of what I had to do. I do understand I could have learned from what the others wrote; I just did not have the time. Maybe if I would have I would have learned something.
I do not feel this helped me in my professional career at all. I do not see a health care facility hiring me because I can blog well. I hope they will be hiring me because I am a good medical assistant! And being able to blog well has nothing to do with that.
However I do feel I learned a lot from the class. And that the things I learned in class will be very helpful in the job market.
